This sadness, this unending sadness that we feel, where does it come from?
This love for sad songs even when we are perfectly happy, what is it all about?

This yearning, this unending yearning that we feel, where does it come from?
This wish for some good news, even when everything is perfect, what is all about?
This continuous wait for a message, even when we have tens of unread messages,
This continuous checking of emails, even when we know everyone has replied,

What is this all about, this waiting, this hoping?
What is this magical near future that we keep waiting for?
What is so wrong with living now and being present?
What is so wrong about being gracious for all the things we have?

Why do we take for granted what we have?
Why do we despise those who are always there for us?
Those who truly love and cherish us,
Those who would come running if we called in the middle of the night.

What is this attraction to the impossible?
Is it all about beckoning sadness?
What is this vicious self sabotage habit?
Don’t we believe that we deserve good things and happiness?
