This one is for the ‘misfits’,
For those who can’t seem to conform no matter how hard they try,
For those who feel lost and alone even in the midst of masses,
For those who always have a lot going on in their minds all at once.

For those who cannot sustain a small talk,
For those who struggle with social conventions in networking,
For those who can’t seem to fit in the narrow conventions of societal decency,
For those who dare think and act differently.

For those who reject the idea of people-pleasing,
For those who just want to live their lives, unbothered,
For those who want follow their passions without seeking approval,
For those who just want to be their authentic selves, unhindered.

They might label you a misfit,
Call you weird,
Chuckle behind your back,
Because you do not fit their confines of being normal.

But what is normal anyway?
Isn’t that what we call boring?
And if normal is being like everyone else,
How much pretence has to go into that?

Surely, our backgrounds and experiences are distinct,
So how then can we be like everyone else?
Perhaps there’s a consensus on what’s deemed decent,
But is there an agreement on what normal means?
Aside from being synonymous with dullness?

Be comfortable in who you are,
Be comfortable even when they despise you,
You might be the only one doing it right,
And even if you aren’t, none of them has walked your journey, and seen what you have seen.

Some experiences bring more clarity in life,
And make us realise what is really important to focus on,
And you might have decided that conforming and people-pleasing isn’t worth the time,
And that is okay.

But even when being different or a rebel please realise the limits ,
That the world’s systems are build for the ‘normals’,
So I hope that you can be a little open minded,
And that you embrace learning and growth when they are necessary.

I will leave you with words from the legendary Steve Jobs:

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
